A Texan in Desperation

It's the wild west, the dessert is dusty and the cowboys are mean.

A lone man rides into the town of Desperation and ties his horse up outside the saloon. He walks in and the room goes deadly silent, but he carries straight on up to the bar and orders himself a drink. Little does he know that the townspeople hate newcomers and when he finishes his drink and walks outside he finds that his trusty steed has gone.

With a sullen expression he walks back inside the bar and faces the crowd.

"My horse has been stolen. Can anyone tell me who took him?"

His question is met with nothing but the sound of sniggering.

He sighs and says "Okay, I see this is going to be difficult. Well, I'm going to order myself another drink, and by the time I have finished it I want my horse tied up outside exactly where I left it. If he isn't then I'm going to have to do what I did in Texas." He shakes his head as if in morbid recollection, "I really don't want to have to do what I did in Texas!"

As he turns his back to the room to order a drink, several chairs scrape and footsteps sound towards the door.

Five minutes later he walks outside to see his horse tied up exactly where he left it. With a smile he unties him and climbs on.

Just as he's about to gallop away a woman comes running out of the bar and stops him, "Sir! Please wait! I couldn't let you leave without asking, what did you have to do in Texas that was so bad?"

With a smile the cowboy looks down at her and tips his hat "Why Ma'am, I had to walk home."
